PELJESAC BRIDGE TO BE OPENED FOR THE SUMMER SEASON

“Having a bridge means to reconnect and built new friendship and new stories.” (Ismar Kafti)

TRAVELING TO DUBROVNIK IS NOW EASIER

NO MORE BORDERS

On our previous blog post “Summer Is Calling“, have told you about plenty of new flight connections between Dubrovnik and destinations in the UK, Spain and Poland, now we have great news for all visitors traveling to Dubrovnik by Car.

Up to now, anyone who wanted to travel to Dubrovnik along the coast had to plan a bordercrossing to Bosnia Herzigowina in the small town of Neum.

Passport controls caused long waiting times on both sides of the border and extended the travel time by several hours.

After 3 years of construction the 2.4 km long Peljesac Bridge finally connects the southern part of Croatia directly with the northern part with a two lane road along the coast, with a bypass of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The new bridge makes traveling to and from Dubrovnik more easy and allows daily trips to the northern parts of Croatia by car without any passport controls and long traffic jams.

Furthermore, to enjoy the incredible sea view by crossing the bridge might be one of the new highlights of your trip to Dubrovnik.

MOST EXPENSIVE INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECT OF THE EUROPEAN UNION

INAUGURATION CEREMONY BEFORE THE HIGH SEASON

Since it is the most expensive infrastructure project since 1986 when the European Commission began co-financing projects, the opening should be attended by both the European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and the European Commissioner for Cohesion Policy Elisa Ferreira.

The ceremony is supposed to take place on July 19th, 20th or 21st. The opening is planned in the midst of the tourist season, when thousands of tourists will travel to Dubrovnik.

The bridge cost 418 million euros, in which the EU participated with 85 percent of the money and Croatia with 15 percent.

Until then, one of the most expensive projects was the construction of a subway in the Portuguese city of Porto, for which 316 million euros were allocated from EU funds.

Now with the large number of new flight connections and the Peljesac Bridge there are no more obstacles for jour journey to the Adriatic Pearl.
